David’s Theme:

Detritus.

Go for a walk and search the ground. Look around your house. Look through those endless files of junk and scraps of paper (you know you have them). Read an old diary, or find an old letter you never sent. Get out your sketchbooks, dig through your past, bring out your dead.

Construct something from the remnants. Bring something back to life.

November 2007: Lyrical Creation

30 11 2007

Celeste’s theme:

“Lyrical Creation”

Through the means of Intuitive Creating, you may choose to incorporate the written word or music into your art work. You can choose a poem, song lyric, quote, etc, for inspiration. Or you may choose a musical piece to inspire your creation.Intuitive creating is the merging of art and spirituality. It is a tool of self discovery through color, shapes, form, light and space. The artist is to be directed by instinct rather than rules, encouraging creative accidents to occur as you emerge yourself in the creative process. Paint freely without preconceived notions. Create spontaneously without expectation. Ignore your inner critic. Main idea in Intuitive creating: you cannot have a preconceived idea of a finished piece, the artwork develops in the process of creating.meditating on your chosen inspiration prior to creating is highly recommended!

October 2007: Day of the Dead

27 10 2007

Tina’s theme-

Day of the Dead is a time to honor family members and loved ones that have passed on and also to acknowledge death as part of the natural cycle of life. The festivities and preparations usually begin in mid-October and continue through the first week of November, most notably on November 1rst and 2nd. If you are not familiar with this tradition, this is a good website to read:
http://www.mexconnect.com/mex_/muertos.html

“This holiday is not solemn, not morbid, but rather, though dedicated to remembrance, it is a period full of life, color, play, and festival.”
http://www.casamexicanafolkart.com/the_day_of_the_dead.html

With this idea in mind, create a visual piece honoring something or someone that has passed away. You can use traditional imagery if you’d like or you can combine it with your own style. You can get as conceptual as you would like. You can stick to the postcard format or venture out. As long as you can get a picture of it and mail it to your partner, anything goes. And remember, with Day of the Dead, more is more, so don’t hold back on the glitter.
